円安って英語でなんと言う？

最近、アメリカの長期金利の上昇を受けて日米の金利差が拡大するという見方から、円安が急ピッチで進んでいます。
円安が多くの社会人の関心を集めており、テレビや新聞でよく触られる話題でもありますので、
今回、円安や為替の動きを表す英語表現などを紹介致します。

「円安」って英語で？

depreciation of the yen 又は yen depreciation
weakening (of the) yen 又は weak(er) yen

例：After the announcement of interest rate hike of US Federal Reserve, the yen weakened rapidly against the dollar.
米国中央銀行FRBが金利の引き上げを発表すると、円はドルに対して急落しました。

The yen is weakening against the Euro.
ユーロに対して円が安くなっています。

The weak yen is advantageous for exporters.
円安は輸出業者にとって有利です。

為替レートの変動を語る英語表現

「変動する」の英語は、fluctuateと言います。
※ rapidly(急速）, gradually（徐々に), slowly(ゆっくり), sharply(急激に), dramatically(劇的に), greatly(大きく) などを使って、
その速さや程度を表現します。

例：The exchange rates fluctuate greatly.
為替レートが大きく乱高下しています。

The Japanese currency is rapidly getting weaker.
円が急落しています。

為替レート今後の見込みを語る英語表現

今後の為替レートについては、anticipate/predict(予想/予測) や trend(トレンド）などの英語を使っても良いでしょう。

例：I anticipate that the yen will probably remain low for the next five to ten years.
ここ5年から10年は、円安のまま留まると予想する。

I think the downward trend of the yen’s depreciation is continuing.
円の下降傾向は続くと思います。

The price of currency will change based on not only the economy but also as a result of political issues, so to predict and calculate the price is very difficult.
通貨価格は、経済だけではなく、その国の政治問題によっても変わるので、価格変動の予測と算定が非常に難しいです。

円安による影響を語る英語表現

「影響」を言いたい時、impact、hit (the economy) hardなどの表現を使います。

例：The depreciation of Japanese yen has made a big impact on the Japanese economy/It impacted the economy greatly.
円安が日本経済に大きな影響を与えた。

It hit the economy hard.
日本経済に大きな打撃を与えた。

円安のメリットについて

例：As the Japanese yen depreciated against other currencies, Japanese products have become cheaper and
more attractive to foreigners, so exports have increased.
日本円がほかの通貨に対して下がったため、日本の商品は安くなり外国人にとって魅力的になったため、輸出が増えました。

Some companies enjoy increased profits with a lower yen.
円の下落によって利益を得ている会社もあります。

Some companies are in good shape because they make the raw materials they require rather than importing them.
海外から輸入するのではなく、必要な原材料を生産して、うまく経営している会社もあります。

円安のデメリットについて

例：Because of the yen’s depreciation, the price of imported items has gone up.
円安によって、輸入品の価格が上がっています。

It’s very difficult to mitigate loss in this situation because if a company is sourcing materials from foreign markets and
the exchange rate depreciates, they can’t easily find a new supplier locally on short notice.
この状況でロスを軽減するのは非常に難しいです。企業が海外市場から資材を調達している場合、為替レートが下がると、
急に国内で新しいサプライヤーを見つけるのは簡単ではありません。

The cost of traveling has gone up because of the weak yen, which is really disappointing for me.
円安のため、旅行費用が高くなり、本当にガッカリです。

The weak yen is cutting into small businesses’ profits.
円安が小規模ビジネスの利益を減らしています。

The yen’s depreciation completely offset the increase in stock prices of the Japanese market.
円安は、日本市場での株の上げを完全にオフセットしました。
